What is a VA Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP)? CMOP is a centralized, highly automated prescription filling operation utilizing assembly line techniques, robotics, and software interfaces and automated filling systems to produce an accurately filled prescription, within accepted pharmaceutical practices, packaged for delivery to our nation's veterans.  This position belongs under the National Association of Government Employees (NAGE) Bargaining unit. Major Duties: You will serve as a Pharmacy Technician in the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) in any of the following areas: ·         Manual, automated dispensing, labeling, manifesting, and packing of controlled substance ·         Taking inventory and replenishing automated dispensing devices ·         Operating and troubleshooting automated dispensing equipment when needed ·         Responding to inquiries from professional staff and representatives of industry ·         Interpreting, filling, and readying  a wide variety of prescriptions from bulk regular stock and controlled substances ·         Assisting with basic inventory activities ·         Executing pour-backs or returning items to stock, labeling prescriptions; performing aseptic techniques ·         Receiving supplies and checking for shortages, tampering, breakage, etc. ·         Checking and rotating pharmacy stock ·         Witnessing and recording the destruction of drugs ·         Operating and maintaining complicated pharmacy equipment ·         Assisting in final prescription checks ·         Collects and collates quality assurance data Qualifications: All individuals applying under this announcement must meet the qualifications for appointment as contained in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G28, Pharmacy Technician Qualifications Standard, GS-0661, Veterans Health Administration. GS-4 Experience:  One year of general experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. This experience may have included experience in another medical field (licensed practical nurse, laboratory technology, etc.).  Successful completion of a course for medical technicians, hospital corpsmen, medical service specialists, or hospital training obtained in a training program conducted by the U.S. Armed forces is creditable on a month-to-month basis for general experience. GS-5 Experience:  One year of experience at the next lower level that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. This is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of experience may include:  Accurately interpreting, filling and readying prescriptions with appropriate medications or supplies; assisting with basic inventory activities; labeling prescriptions accurately; operating automated dispensing devices and equipment; and performing aseptic techniques. GS-4 Education: Successful completion of 2 years above high school with courses related to pharmacy or pharmacy technology, or 1 year of general experience that may have included experience in another medical filed (licensed practical nurse, laboratory technology, etc.)   Successful completion of a course for medical technicians, hospital corpsmen, medical service specialists, or hospital training obtained in a training program conducted by the Armed Forces or the U.S. Maritime Service under close medical and professional supervision is creditable on a month-for-month basis for general experience.  GS-5 Education: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree that included at least 24 semester hours of courses related to pharmacy or pharmacy technology may be substituted for the required experience for grade 5; successful completion of pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy services while serving in the Armed Forces is creditable on a month-for-month basis up to the 1 year of experience required for the GS-05 level. Citizenship:  You must be a United States Citizen. Designated Drug Testing position: If selected, you may be required to take a drug test. Physical Examination: You must pass a physical examination as outlined in VA Handbook 5005, part II English Language Proficiency: You must be proficient in spoken and written English Probationary Period: You must serve a probationary period of 1 year.
