Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Clinical Development/CMO, the Medical Affairs Director is responsible for the development and execution of medical affairs plans including KOL (key opinion leader) relationship management, advisory boards, publications, medical communications, medical meeting coordination, and health economics and outcomes research. In this role you will partner closely with the clinical, regulatory and commercial teams to develop an integrated medical affairs perspective and plans for launching Omeros Corporation products.

Omeros is a Seattle-based biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing, and commercializing both small-molecule and protein therapeutics for large-market as well as orphan indications targeting inflammation, coagulopathies and disorders of the central nervous system.

Part of its proprietary PharmacoSurgery® platform, the company's first drug product, OMIDRIA® (phenylephrine and ketorolac injection) 1%/0.3%, was broadly launched in the U.S. in April 2015. OMIDRIA is the first and only FDA-approved drug (1) for use during cataract surgery or intraocular lens (IOL) replacement to maintain pupil size by preventing intraoperative miosis (pupil constriction) and to reduce postoperative ocular pain and (2) that contains an NSAID for intraocular use. In the European Union, the European Commission has approved OMIDRIA for use in cataract surgery and lens replacement procedures to maintain mydriasis (pupil dilation), prevent miosis (pupil constriction), and to reduce postoperative eye pain.

Omeros has clinical-stage development programs focused on: complement-associated thrombotic microangiopathies; complement-mediated glomerulonephropathies; Huntington's disease and cognitive impairment; and addictive and compulsive disorders. In addition, Omeros has a proprietary G protein-coupled receptor, or GPCR, platform, which is making available an unprecedented number of new GPCR drug targets and corresponding compounds to the pharmaceutical industry for drug development, and a platform used to generate antibodies.

 

What are your job responsibilities?

  • Developing a comprehensive medical affairs strategic plan to include launch and lifecycle considerations for Omeros Corporation assets
  • Identifying, developing and maintaining relationships with KOLs including collaborating with KOLs to identify messages for scientific communications and gaining feedback on strategies to support the scientific and medical affairs plans
  • Developing and overseeing the execution of medical affairs tactics and tasks such as medical affairs studies, scientific conference planning and coverage, advisory boards, publication planning and review, review of medical information standard response letters, health economics and epidemiology analysis, design and execution of registries, and marketing/policy related projects
  • Collaborating with and providing scientific and clinical support and training for internal departments such as Sales, Medical Science Liaisons, Clinical Operations, Research, Legal/Policy, and Investor Relations and externally for audiences such as health care providers, patient advocates, formulary, and clinical guidelines decision makers
  • Providing clinical and scientific support in responding to inquiries from healthcare professionals and managed care organizations
  • Developing publication strategy and executing accordingly; acting as the primary owner of publications as appropriate; reviewing and editing publications, posters, and presentations
  • Participates in cross-functional and cross-company Clinical and Commercial teams providing and representing Medical Affairs strategies and tactics

 

What experience and education do you need?

You’ll need to have an M.D. (Medical Doctorate) degree with a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience (or equivalent), with a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Affairs Director. Ophthalmology experience is a plus. You must have prior experience leading projects people and Medical Science Liaisons, including leading cross-functional teams as well as prior experience with strategic and tactical planning for a launch of a marketed product.

What else do you need to know?

  • Substantial overnight travel, 50% or greater, is required.
