What you'll do at OhioMHAS:

This position supervises and oversees the daily operations of the Central Pharmacy Inpatient (CPI) unit, including the direct supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. It ensures the safe and effective dispensing of medications, maintains inventory control, manages staffing and workflow, and enforces compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations. The role involves leadership in staff development, policy implementation, and serving as a liaison between the pharmacy and internal or external stakeholders. It also supports clinical pharmacy services and handles customer concerns and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Staff Management: Directly supervises CPI staff, including pharmacists and technicians-handling hiring recommendations, leave approvals, performance evaluations, training, discipline, and staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow.
  • Pharmacy Operations Oversight: Manages day-to-day pharmacy production activities, including medication dispensing, label/report generation, equipment/supply requisition, and maintaining security and accountability of drug inventory and distribution systems.
  • Clinical Oversight and Drug Therapy Monitoring: Assists in reviewing drug therapies for accuracy, dosage, interactions, and adverse effects; provides clinical consultation to institutional staff; oversees pharmacist interventions and helps deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Develops and implements procedures for safe medication handling, storage, and security; ensures adherence to applicable laws and certifying agency standards; maintains compliance documentation and mandated records retention.
  • Issue Resolution and Quality Improvement: Investigates customer concerns or operational issues, drafts or revises procedures to address problems, and supports special projects and programs; prepares reports, participates in inspections and training at facilities served by CPI.

This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of 17 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (Flexible Schedule).

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

Current & valid license to practice pharmacy as issued by Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, pursuant to Sections 4729.01 to 4729.29, inclusive of Ohio Revised Code.

  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Pharmacist, 65411.
  • Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the major worker characteristics, noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
