Responsibilities
- Read, review and dispense incoming prescriptions for accuracy, suitability to patient, and potential interactions
- Provide information to patients on side effects, dosage, specific storage needs, and interactions with other medications
- Maintain excellent patient records and pharmacy files
- Conduct regular inventory and maintain proper standards for accepting new inventory and categorizing it appropriately
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment
- Accurately dispense prescription medications.
- Review prescriptions for legality and clinical appropriateness.
- Check for drug interactions, contraindications, and allergies.
- Counsel patients on medication usage and side effects.
- Promote medication adherence.
- Administer immunizations (e.g., flu, COVID-19, shingles).
- Comply with NY State and federal pharmacy laws.
- Maintain accurate patient and prescription records.
- Manage controlled substances per DEA and NYS guidelines.
- Oversee pharmacy technicians and interns.
- Perform medication therapy management (MTM).
- Handle insurance claims and resolve coverage issues.
- Monitor for prescription fraud and drug misuse.
- Participate in public health initiatives (e.g., health screenings).
- Stay updated on new drugs, therapies, and regulations
- Must hold a current state pharmacist license ( RPh )
- Immunization License preferred but not required
- Reliable transportation to and from work location
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to multitask and shift priorities, as needed
- English
