The Lead Pharmacy Technician performs various functions on rotational basis in inpatient, outpatient, controlled substance and floor stock drug distribution, intravenous admixture preparation, and extemporaneous compounding. Assists pharmacist in all aspects of Pharmacy operations (including computer system) in order to meet the goals and objectives of the Pharmacy Department. All activities are performed under the supervision of a pharmacist. Provides informal supervisory oversight of Pharmacy technicians in department to insure daily requirements are met. Assists Pharmacy Management team in technician scheduling and performance evaluation. Assists leadership team with quality and regulatory tasks as assigned. Coordinates training of new technicians.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of non-sterile medications and sterile/hazardous medications if assigned
  • Support pharmacy operations across inpatient, outpatient, controlled substance, and floor stock workflows
  • Maintain medication and supply inventory through ordering, stocking, packaging, rotating stock, and removing expired items
  • Monitor medication and pharmacy storage conditions through regular nursing unit inspections
  • Coordinate training and documentation for new pharmacy technicians in assigned work areas
  • Assist pharmacy management with technician scheduling and performance evaluation
  • Support pharmacy leadership with quality and regulatory tasks as assigned
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, nursing units, supply chain, and hospital leadership to provide high-quality service

Education:

High School Diploma required or equivalent.

Associates or Bachelor's Degree in business or health care field preferred

Minimum Experience:

3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital environment

Licenses/Certifications:

Current Pharmacy Technician Certification is strongly preferred, required within 6 months of hire.

Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection within 30 days of hire and by March 31st of each year.
