A Brief Overview
Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, will assist in the non-judgmental aspects of preparing medications for dispensing and assist in retail pharmacy operations. Will provide services to patients from birth to death.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Associate's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- 2 years Pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, institutional or ambulatory clinic setting. Required
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- National Technician Certification recognized by the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy is required. Must also be registered with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.
What you will do
- Properly use dispensing and barcoding technology to ensure accurate medication selection, stocking, and order fulfillment for all patient orders. Ensures accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into various systems; verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, days' supply, supplies, insurance, and other data. Reviews all relevant clinical information and clarifies with pharmacist/prescriber as appropriate. Works with payers to resolve insurance related issues, assists with financial assistance programs as needed. checking the work of other technicians when applicable (Tech-Check-Tech).
- Deliver excellent customer service to healthcare providers and patients, by greeting them in person and by phone, answering non-judgmental questions and requests, manage Epic messages, initiate and complete prior authorizations, and referring inquiriies requiring judgment to a pharmacist.
- Manipulate and dispense hazardous and non-hazardous medications per department procedure. Apply critical thinking in all situations, seeking guidance from other technicians and pharmacists as required while achieving an appropriate level of independence.
- Specialty Pharmacy: Ensures accuracy of prescription and patient data entered into various systems; verifying patient, drug, quantities, directions, days supply, supplies, insurance, and physician data. Reviews all pertinent medical documentation from physician offices and other healthcare facilities, and clarifies prescription orders with pharmacist and/or clinician as appropriate. Works with payers to resolve insurance related issues, assists patients with financial assistance as needed.
- Achieve and maintain competency in at least two specialized pharmacy functions, including but not limited to: vaccine administration, pharmacy buying, specialty pharmacy fulfillment, drug diversion management, and REMS programs. Serve as a leader in the pharmacy, functioning as a good example to techs and pharmacists alike.
