General Summary of Position
The Pharmacy Technician Informatics Specialist provides oversight, support and training for pharmacy automation; information systems; and other related technology. This position supports the Pharmacy Informatics Director and supports or fulfills the role of a project manager for special pharmacy information systems projects. This position will have a hybrid connected workforce designation with onsite time required at each of the MedStar hospitals to support automation implementations and optimization of Pharmacy dispensing technology.
Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinates and supports creation and maintenance of Pharmacy intranet resources such as website, shared network drives, and related technology.
- Identifies end-user educational requirements and training needs; develops educational programs, instructional materials, and appropriate tools to educate users at all levels of the organization.
- Works with the Informatics Pharmacist to monitor and enhance end-user satisfaction.
- Provides oversight and support for pharmacy automation and technology, both applications and hardware to include Automated Dispensing Systems; barcode scanning; labeling and repackaging programs; RFID and related technology; pharmacy workflow systems, medication inventory systems, analytics platforms and other related technology.
- In coordination with the Informatics Pharmacists, supports or leads implementations; maintains databases, formularies, and application modifications. Supports or governs user access control and auditing procedures. Provides maintenance for pharmacy systems. Supports system upgrades and modifications.
- Participates in development and maintenance of contingency and downtime plans for technology systems failure or compromise.
- Provides subject matter expertise; implementation oversight; evaluation of systems effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician training program required
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of related pharmacy technician experience required
- Hospital environment experience. experience in informatics or computer science preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Board of Pharmacy Upon Hire required and
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification Upon Hire required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers.
- Moderate Computer skills
- Ability to read and comprehend drug nomenclature and related medical terminology.

This position has a hiring range of $22.04 - $38.41
