Job Description

The Scientist II is a seasoned formulator who blends deep technical expertise with creativity to develop a wide range of personal care, cosmetic, and OTC products, such as sunscreens and anti-acne treatments, from concept to launch. This role involves identifying market gaps across brands and crafting innovative solutions tailored to customer specifications. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for collaboration across internal teams and with external clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead formulation projects from concept through completion with minimal oversight.
• Resolve formulation and scale-up challenges independently.
• Serve as a technical liaison with customers, addressing regulatory and performance-related topics.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards in product development.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through raw material optimization.
• Oversee scale-up processes and define critical manufacturing parameters.
• Troubleshoot production issues and manage batch inconsistencies.
• Establish product specifications and author compounding procedures.
• Supervise pilot batch production and coordinate lab activities.
• Submit documentation for new formulas and raw materials to operations and QC.
• Conduct raw material research and vendor evaluations.
• Draft and review ingredient lists, QQs, and packaging artwork.
• Analyze lab results, assess risks, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Stay informed on market trends and emerging formulation technologies.
• Mentor and train lab personnel.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

• Demonstrated leadership and cross-functional teamwork abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 8+ years of formulation experience OR an advanced degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Master's or PhD in a related field preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in personal care product formulation preferred.

Work Environment

The work environment is a GMP Laboratory, conducive to innovation and growth. The lab is equipped with advanced technologies to support the development of cutting-edge personal care products.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
