The OCC Pharmacy Technician II performs technical functions of drug distribution for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services under the direct supervision of licensed Clinical Pharmacists or Pharmacy Technician III and assists Pharmacists/Managers in the supervision of Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Externs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Enter, process and prioritize prescription orders using the pharmacys computerized dispensing system.
- Assist in filling and dispensing outpatient prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
- Complete accurate pharmaceutical calculations required for processing prescriptions.
- Operate point-of-sale systems and perform accurate cash register transactions.
- Fully participate in and support quality improvement initiatives and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Navigate and utilize pharmacy systems and workflows to support organized, efficient and safe daily pharmacy operations.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking, monitoring medication and supply levels and/or ordering, as assigned.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to various assignments, the schedule and staffing needs, ability to multi-task, problem solve.
- Provide professional and courteous communications and customer service to patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff.
- Perform non-sterile pharmaceutical compounding in accordance with established procedures and regulatory standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy regulations.
- Perform additional duties and participate in special projects as assigned by pharmacists and/or the Pharmacy Technician III.
- Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.
- Any one of the following that equals six (6)months:
- Successful completion of a formal training program in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices. OR
- Work experience in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.
- One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a pharmacy technician. Preferred Qualifications:
- Possess the knowledge and capability of navigating 3rd party insurance plans, submitting and processing prior authorizations, and documenting communications with clinical staff into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
- Strong typing, verbal and written skills
- Previous experience in patient-facing pharmacy settings (i.e. retail or outpatient pharmacy)
- Bilingual Spanish Speaker
